Information on Unemployment in the Czech Republic by September 30, 2013

By September 30, 2013 job offices registered altogether 557,058 job seekers. That is by 5,327 more than at the end of August 2013. The number of job seekers increased by 63,873 persons compared with the same period of the preceding year. The number of available job seekers (job seekers currently available for work) was 542,438 (541,847 in age 15 to 64 years).

In the course of September, job offices registered altogether 65,120 newcomers. That is by 23,286 job seekers more than in the preceding month and by 4,347 newly registered job seekers more than in September of the preceding year.

In September, job offices registration was terminated with 59,793 job seekers. New jobs have been taken up by 31,698 persons. In the course of the above-said month, job offices excluded 28,095 job seekers due to other reasons.

A monthly increase of unemployed was registered by 63 districts in the Czech Republic relatively the greatest increase was monitored in districts Rokycany (4.3 %), Benešov (4.0 %), Plzeň-sever (3.9 %) and Kolín (3.7 %). A monthly decrease of unemployed was registered by 14 - relatively the greatest decrease was monitored in districts Jihlava (4.5 %), Havlíčkův Brod (3.9 %) and Pardubice (2.5 %).

At the end of September, job offices registered 283,386 female job seekers, that is 50.9 % of the unemployed in total, and 61,354 persons with reduced working capacity, that is 11.0 % of the unemployed in total.

By September 30, 2013, 41,181 school leavers with all levels of education and juveniles were registered. Thus they share in the total unemployment by 7.4 % (August 2013 – 5.8 %, September 2012 – 7.0 %).

In September 2013, job offices paid off unemployment benefits to 104,244 job seekers, that is 18.7 % of all job seekers under registration (August 2013 – 20.3 %, September 2012 – 18.1 %).

Since 1st January 2013, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has replaced the indicator of registered unemployment with a new indicator named the share of unemployed persons. It is the ratio of available job seekers aged 15 to 64 years in the population of the same age.

By September 30, 2013, the share of unemployed was 7.6 % (August 2013 – 7.5 %, September 2012 – 6.6 %, time series - /web/en/unemployment-in-the-czech-republic). Share of unemployed the same or higher than average of the Czech Republic was shown in 38 districts, the highest being in Most (13.6 %), Bruntál (12.4 %), Ústí nad Labem (12.3 %) and Karviná (12.2 %). The lowest share of unemployed was in districts of Praha-východ (3.4 %), Praha-západ (4.2 %), Pelhřimov and Prachatice (both 4.6 %) and Mladá Boleslav (4.8 %). Share of unemployed - women was 7.8 % and share of unemployed - men was 7.4 %.

By September 30, 2013, job offices registered altogether 41,422 vacancies. That is by 843 vacancies more than in the preceding month and by 613 vacancies more than in the same period of the preceding year. At present, there have been 13.4 job seekers for one vacancy at average, the highest amount being in districts of Karviná (58.1), Bruntál (54.4) and Ústí nad Labem (42.9). In this monitored period, there were registered by job offices 4,696 vacancies for persons with reduced working capacity, that is 13.1 seekers per vacancy. In the case of school leavers and juveniles, there were registered altogether 9,352 vacancies, that is 4.4 seekers per vacancy.

Unemployment rate (EUROSTAT - ILO) was 7.3 % in August 2013.
