Information on Unemployment in the Czech Republic by July 31, 2013

By July 31, 2013 job offices registered altogether 551,096 job seekers. That is by 10,623 more than at the end of June 2013. The number of job seekers increased by 65,499 persons compared with the same period of the preceding year. The number of available job seekers (job seekers currently available for work) was 537,265 (536,679 in age 15 to 64 years).

In the course of July 31, job offices registered altogether 52,863 newcomers. That is by 14,329 job seekers more than in the preceding month and by 4,440 newly registered job seekers more than in July of the preceding year.

In July, job offices registration was terminated with 42,240 job seekers. New jobs have been taken up by 16,847 persons. In the course of the above-said month, job offices excluded 25,393 job seekers due to other reasons.

A monthly decrease of unemployed was registered by 4 districts in the Czech Republic – Jeseník (4.0 %), Cheb (0.9 %), Teplice (0.6 %) and Bruntál (0.1 %).

At the end of July, job offices registered 280,722 female job seekers, that is 50.9 % of the unemployed in total, and 61,721 persons with reduced working capacity, that is 11.2 % of the unemployed in total.

By July 31, 2013, 29,142 school leavers with all levels of education and juveniles were registered. Thus they share in the total unemployment by 5.3 % (June 2013 – 5.0 %, July 2012 – 4.3 %).

In July 2013, job offices paid off unemployment benefits to 111,317 job seekers, that is 20.2 % of all job seekers under registration (June 2013 – 20.2 %, July 2012 – 18.9 %).

Since 1^st January 2013, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has replaced the indicator of registered unemployment with a new indicator named the share of unemployed persons. It is the ratio of available job seekers aged 15 to 64 years in the population of the same age.

By July 31, 2013, the share of unemployed was 7.5 % (June 2013 – 7.3 %, July 2012 – 6.5 %, time series - /web/en/unemployment-in-the-czech-republic). Share of unemployed higher than average of the Czech Republic was shown in 36 districts, the highest being in Most (13.6 %), Bruntál (12.3 %), Ústí nad Labem (12.2 %), Karviná (11.9 %) and Chomutov (11.5 %). The lowest share of unemployed was in districts of Praha-východ (3.4 %), Praha-západ (4.2 %), Mladá Boleslav (4.6 %), Pelhřimov (4.7 %), Prachatice (4.8 %), Plzeň-jih (4.9 %), hl. m. Praha and Benešov (both 5.0 %). Share of unemployed - women was 7.7 % and share of unemployed - men was 7.3 %.

By July 31, 2013, job offices registered altogether 40,175 vacancies. That is by 3,857 vacancies less than in the preceding month and by 918 vacancies less than in the same period of the preceding year. At present, there have been 13.7 job seekers for one vacancy at average, the highest amount being in districts of Bruntál (57.4), Havlíčkův Brod (50.3), Karviná (49.4), Jeseník (47.5), Hodonín (36.9) and Třebíč (34.9). In this monitored period, there were registered by job offices 4,617 vacancies for persons with reduced working capacity, that is 13.4 seekers per vacancy. In the case of school leavers and juveniles, there were registered altogether 9,657 vacancies, that is 3.0 seekers per vacancy.

Unemployment rate (EUROSTAT - ILO) was 6.4 % in June 2013.
