Information on Unemployment in the Czech Republic by December 31, 2013

By December 31, 2013 job offices registered altogether 596,833 job seekers. That is by 31,520 more than at the end of November 2013. The number of job seekers increased by 51,522 persons compared with the same period of the preceding year. The number of available job seekers (job seekers currently available for work) was 583,081 (582,457 in age 15 to 64 years).

In the course of December, job offices registered altogether 59,633 newcomers. That is by 8,798 job seekers more than in the preceding month and by 612 newly registered job seekers less than in December of the preceding year.

In December, job offices registration was terminated with 28,113 job seekers. New jobs have been taken up by 12,661 persons. In the course of the above-said month, job offices excluded 15,564 job seekers due to other reasons.

A monthly increase of unemployed was registered by 76 districts in the Czech Republic - relatively the greatest increase was monitored in districts Prachatice (20.8 %), Jindřichův Hradec (19.4 %), Pelhřimov (17.1 %), Chrudim (15.1 %), Svitavy (13.9 %). A monthly decrease of unemployed was registered by district Teplice (0.2 %).

At the end of December, job offices registered 289,501 female job seekers, that is 48.5 % of the unemployed in total, and 62,789 persons with reduced working capacity, that is 10.5 % of the unemployed in total.

By December 31, 2013, 39,546 school leavers with all levels of education and juveniles were registered. Thus they share in the total unemployment by 6.6 % (November 2013 – 7.1 %, December 2012 – 6.6 %).

In December 2013, job offices paid off unemployment benefits to 120,030 job seekers, that is 19.1 % of all job seekers under registration (October 2013 – 18.7 %, November 2012 – 18.4 %).

By December 31, 2013 there were 38,810 jobseekers supported through financial benefits of active employment policy.

Since 1st January 2013, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has replaced the indicator of registered unemployment with a new indicator named the share of unemployed persons. It is the ratio of available job seekers aged 15 to 64 years in the population of the same age.

By December 31, 2013, the share of unemployed was 8.2 % (November 2013 – 7.7 %, December 2012 – 7.4 %, time series - /web/en/unemployment-in-the-czech-republic). Share of unemployed higher than average of the Czech Republic was shown in 40 districts, the highest being in Bruntál (14.3 %), Most (13.5 %), Ústí nad Labem (12.7 %) and Karviná (12.5 %). The lowest share of unemployed was in districts of Praha-východ (3.5 %), Praha-západ (4.3 %), Mladá Boleslav (4.7 %), Praha (5.1 %), Plzeň-jih and Rokycany (both 5,5 %). Share of unemployed - women was 8.0 % and share of unemployed - men was 8.3 %.

By December 31, 2013, job offices registered altogether 35,178 vacancies. That is by 2,323 vacancies less than in the preceding month and by 285 vacancies more than in the same period of the preceding year. At present, there have been 17.0 job seekers for one vacancy at average, the highest amount being in districts of Karviná (80.9), Bruntál (66.7), Brno město (57.9) and Hodonín (50.2). In this monitored period, there were registered by job offices 4,471 vacancies for persons with reduced working capacity, that is 14.0 seekers per vacancy. In the case of school leavers and juveniles, there were registered altogether 9,572 vacancies, that is 4.1 seekers per vacancy.

Unemployment rate (EUROSTAT - ILO) was 6.4 % in October 2013.
