Information on Unemployment in the Czech Republic by August 31, 2013

By August 31, 2013 job offices registered altogether 551,731 job seekers. That is by 635 more than at the end of July 2013. The number of job seekers increased by 65,038 persons compared with the same period of the preceding year. The number of available job seekers (job seekers currently available for work) was 538,465 (537,880 in age 15 to 64 years).

In the course of August 31, job offices registered altogether 41,834 newcomers. That is by 11,029 job seekers less than in the preceding month and by 609 newly registered job seekers less than in August of the preceding year.

In August, job offices registration was terminated with 41,199 job seekers. New jobs have been taken up by 17,764 persons. In the course of the above-said month, job offices excluded 23,435 job seekers due to other reasons.

A monthly increase of unemployed was registered by 36 districts in the Czech Republic relatively the greatest increase was monitored in districts Plzeň jih (4.1 %), Plzeň město (2.3 %), Mladá Boleslav and Praha both (1.6 %), Rychnov nad Kněžnou (7.8 %), Znojmo (7.6 %) Český Krumlov (7.5 %). A monthly decrease of unemployed was registered by 41 - relatively the greatest decrease was monitored in districts offices Prachatice (2.5 %), Rychnov nad Kněžnou (1.8 %) and Klatovy (1.7 %).

At the end of August, job offices registered 282,381 female job seekers, that is 51.2 % of the unemployed in total, and 61,793 persons with reduced working capacity, that is 11.2 % of the unemployed in total.

By August 31, 2013, 31,911 school leavers with all levels of education and juveniles were registered. Thus they share in the total unemployment by 5.8 % (July 2013 – 5.3 %, August 2012 – 5.1 %).

In August 2013, job offices paid off unemployment benefits to 111,967 job seekers, that is 20.3 % of all job seekers under registration (July 2013 – 20.2 %, August 2012 – 19.4 %).

Since 1st January 2013, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has replaced the indicator of registered unemployment with a new indicator named the share of unemployed persons. It is the ratio of available job seekers aged 15 to 64 years in the population of the same age.

By August 31, 2013, the share of unemployed was 7.5 % (July 2013 – 7.5 %, August 2012 – 6.5 %, time series - /web/en/unemployment-in-the-czech-republic). Share of unemployed higher than average of the Czech Republic was shown in 36 districts, the highest being in Most (13.6 %), Bruntál (12.2 %), Ústí nad Labem (12.2 %), Karviná (12.0 %) and Chomutov (11.6 %). The lowest share of unemployed was in districts of Praha-východ (3.4 %), Praha-západ (4.2 %), Prachatice, Pelhřimov and Mladá Boleslav (all 4.7 %). Share of unemployed - women was 7.8 % and share of unemployed - men was 7.3 %.

By August 31, 2013, job offices registered altogether 40,579 vacancies. That is by 404 vacancies more than in the preceding month and by 1,980 vacancies less than in the same period of the preceding year. At present, there have been 13.6 job seekers for one vacancy at average, the highest amount being in districts of Bruntál (49.7), Karviná (49.0), Jeseník (44.6), Sokolov (43.8) and Havlíčkův Brod (33.3). In this monitored period, there were registered by job offices 4,462 vacancies for persons with reduced working capacity, that is 13.8 seekers per vacancy. In the case of school leavers and juveniles, there were registered altogether 9,875 vacancies, that is 3.2 seekers per vacancy.

Unemployment rate (EUROSTAT - ILO) was 6.7 % in July 2013.
